Middle Spotted Woodpecker- Middelste Bonte Specht (Dendrocopos medius)

The plumage is similar to the great spotted woodpecker but a little bit smaller. With a size of 19,5 -22cm long it has a rounder and lighter face then the great spotted woodpecker. It prefers deciduous forest regions, mixt with patchwork of clearings, pasture and dense woodland. The middle spotted woodpecker lives on a diet of insects as well as their larvae, which it finds by picking them from branches and twigs rather than hacking them from beneath the bark. It will also feed on tree sap.
